The first team and Under 18s continued their Cup successes this week….

A solid performance against a poor Blackburn team saw Villa come away with a 1-0 lead in the first leg of the semi-final of the Carling Cup at Ewood Park. Laughing

Villa should really have won the game by a greater margin but wasted a few chances, and a couple of poor refereeing decisions didn’t help.  A well-taken goal by MOTM (again!) James Milner, assisted by poor defending, has made us firm favourites (if we weren’t already) for Wembley. Smile

The second leg is at Villa Park on Wednesday, 20 January at 19.45 – that’s 06.45 Thursday morning for those of us in south-eastern Australia – not a bad time, apart from being late to work. Innocent

The Under 18s, too, marched on in the FA Youth Cup.  Having beaten Rochdale 4-0 in Round 3, we disposed of the Baggies 2-0 at The Hawthorns, partly thanks to some sterling goalkeeping by Benjamin Siegrist, plus two cracking goals from Gary Gardner and Arsenio Halfhuid.  Villa will now meet Millwall or Barnsley in Round 5 on 30 January.
