27/1/10 Villa 0 Arsenal 0 Well a hard fought point against Arsenal again proving that we can match it with the best in the league. All we need to do now is beat the worst in the league and we could be right in contention for the much coveted 4th spot.
Friedel (7)- Made a few good saves, and looked safe as always. Was a big fan of the great dash he made out of his area to avoid a corner. Showed real commitment and part of me was hoping he took the man on and went for a run done the touch line (lol) L Young (6) - Back in the side for the injured Warnock. Thought he was safe, without being brilliant. Dunne (7) - Made a bursting run through the middle of the park late on in the game, in which I thought he was fouled by Gallas at the end. Has been Mr Consistent for us this season, and again showed his class. Collins (5) - Thought he was surprisingly average. Was made to look a road cone by Arshavin on a number of occasions in the 2nd half. Cueller (7) - There is something about having a central defender at right back that makes me feel safe, especially against the top teams. Thought he tidied up well and got a few good crosses into the area in attack. Thought he worked well with Ashley Young down the right. Downing (4) - Missed a sitter with his head in the 2nd half which typified his night. Got on the ball a lot, but his touch and crosses were average at best. Just an off night for poor Stu. Milner (8) - He was everywhere in both attack and defence. Really high work rate tonight and one of Villa's best. Petrov (7) - Made himself available all night and along with Milner I thought had the edge over the Arsenal midfield. Also showed good leadership in calming the lads down when things looked to be getting out of hand early in the 2nd half. A Young (9) - Got my man of the match. Was a real return to form for young Ashley (or is that Ashley Young ???). Clichy had no answer for his array of talent and he was the corner stone of Villa's attacking raids all night. Looked dangerous with every touch. Agbonlahor (6) - Tried hard tonight, but he is just not getting into goal scoring opportunities at the moment. In saying that though Gabby had one good chance early on with his left, which was well saved. Thought he held the ball up well tonight, which is an area of his game which has really improved. I think it will only take 1 goal to get Gabby firing again. Heskey (6)- Like Gabby, tried to get involved as much as possible and provided some good flick-ons and as usual was strong on the ball. Only had one shot from memory which landed in row Z. Actually seen him fire up in the 2nd half which is very rare indeed. Was substituted in the 78th minute which means he got 15 minutes longer than usual. Delph (N/A) - Came on for Heskey and proved to be a handful. Would love to see more of Delph, and a possible starting berth in a Premier league game. The Woodwork (7) - Made 2 good saves either side of the break to keep Villa on level terms. Jye Cajar |
