Villa’s results, goalscorers and other news for the month of January 2010…..

January was an eventful month for the Villa.  The first team had a very full fixture list, playing 7 Cup and League games during the month and, most notably, beating Blackburn Rovers 7-4 on aggregate to reach the Carling Cup Final! Villa will meet Manchester United in the Final at Wembley on 28 February.

Villa also disposed of Blackburn Rovers and Brighton and Hove Albion in the FA Cup to reach the 5th round and an away tie with Crystal Palace on 14 February.

Transfers

The January transfer window came and went with only one transfer – a departure!

Shane Lowry, who had been on loan to Plymouth Argyle for three months before Christmas, went on loan to Leeds United from 30/1/10 to 13/3/10, with possible extension to the end of the season
Nicky Shorey, returned from loan to Nottingham Forest in late January, then went to Fulham on transfer deadline day, 1/2/10 to the end of the season

Chris Herd’s loan to Lincoln City has probably also been extended (although no official confirmation) but he was still playing for Lincoln on 27/1/10, while his original loan was due to expire on 2/1/10
