The Under 18s are back in Quarter Final action....
The first team have successfully negotiated the quarter finals of the FA Cup, although at half time it looked like we were history.
Now it’s the turn of the Under 18s….a FA Youth Cup Quarter Final away to Fulham – 7pm kick off on Tuesday, 9 March 2010.
If we get through, we’re up against Newcastle United in the two-legged semis.
Our progress thus far looks like this:
9 December 2009 – Third Round
Aston Villa 4 Rochdale 0
Goalscorers: Gary Gardner (3), Ryan Simmonds
Team: Siegrist; Grocott, Deeney, Devine, Williams; Lampkin (Roberts 80), G. Gardner, Blythe, Carruthers (Halfhuid 76); Poyser, R. Simmonds (Berry 64).
Substitutes not used: Barratt, Stieber.
14 January 2010 – Fourth Round
West Bromwich Albion 0 Aston Villa 2
Goalscorers: Gary Gardner, Arsenio Halfhuid
Team: [Details not published]
12 February 2010 – Fifth Round
Aston Villa 4 Millwall 1
Goalscorers: Ryan Simmonds, Arsenio Halfhuid (3)
Team: Barrett; Grocott, Devine, Williams, Deeney; Lampkin (Nelson-Addy), Carruthers, Blythe, Roberts (Berry); Halfhuid (Poyser), R. Simmonds.
Substitutes not used: Coton, Taylor.
Two influential players that unfortunately will not feature due to long term injuries are skipper Gary Gardner and Swiss keeper Ben Siegrist.
I expect the team to be similar to the one that beat Millwall, with Kofi Poyser and Ryan Simmonds leading the attack.
A tough game, but one I feel we can still win.
Up The Villa

Villa go through to the semis
A roller coaster game with Fulham taking the lead and Kofi Poyser equalising for Villa to leave it 1-1 at full time. Fulham took the lead again in extra time, before an incredible last ditch equaliser from Daniel Devine in the last seconds of extra time! Penalties and Calum Barrett took a leaf out of Brad Guzan's book, making a couple of saves Villa won 3-1 on penalties from Ryan Simmonds, Kofi Poyser and Ellis Deeney
