Captain of Villa’s European Cup winning team, Dennis spent 10 years with Villa, making over 400 appearances for the club. He joined in 1975 from Coventry for GBP 175,000 (don’t you just love those old transfer fees!), and left in 1985 for Brighton & Hove Albion.
All-time Villa hero, Dennis was recently voted one of the 12 founder members of the www.avfc.co.uk Aston Villa Hall of Fame. http://www.avfc.premiumtv.co.uk/page/HallOfFame/0,,10265,00.html
….and rightly so!
Dennis is still around in Birmingham and attends Villa games. He was an outspoken critic of former Chairman, Doug Ellis, and, in an interview on Vital Villa www.vitalfootball.co.uk in March 2006, he is quoted as saying “My reaction to Doug Ellis returning to the Villa in 1982 was one of disappointment.... for my own future at the club, and for you the fans. I knew no good would come of his return, and to some extent I've been proved right. So personally his years have been disastrous.”
Salute Captain Mortimer!
